What is this?
Hold the Dot is a simple voice recorder that runs in your browser.
- Record: hold the red dot (or the R key) and speak. Let go when you're done.
- Your recordings: what you say appears as a small wavy line next to the dot. A pause starts a new line.
- Play back: tap a line to hear it again.
- Arrange and delete: drag lines wherever you like. Drop one on the bin at the bottom to delete it.
The first time you hold the dot, your browser asks whether this site may use the microphone.
Try it without an account
You can start right away. What you record stays in this browser only. After a minute of recording, you're asked to create a free account to keep going, and your recordings come with you.
With an account
Your recordings are saved online and are there on every device where you sign in. You sign in with a link we email you, with no password. You protect your recordings with a passkey (fingerprint, face or device PIN) or a passphrase.
Private by design
Recordings are encrypted on your device before they're saved. Only you can listen to them, not even the people who run Hold the Dot. You can delete your account and all your recordings at any time from the account menu.
